A New Way of Life in Our City
We are warmly inviting community organisations, visionary businesses and the people of Birmingham to join us for the launch of a new collaborative initiative that will reach out across our great city.
This will be achieved by creating a massive partnership that will join forty huge projects across Birmingham and bring people together for a common cause: happiness, health, productivity, wellbeing and shared prosperity through a deep connection with community and nature.
The Brum Biosphere will be steered by those organisations that are rooted in their neighbourhoods and that are delivering real benefits to Brummies through their activities.
In Joseph Chamberlain’s late Victorian times, Birmingham became the “best governed city in the world” by adopting the philosophy of the Civic Gospel where, what was then a town, thrived by improving the lives of the people.
The Brum Biosphere is the Civic Gospel reborn and together, as a collective we will help create a thriving city, where everyone can feel part of something that gives a deep sense of belonging, community and purpose.
This city partnership will:
- build pride in our great city
- connect the people of Birmingham to nature and open spaces for their happiness, health, productivity, prosperity and wellbeing
- contribute to our region’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy to create a secure future for all
- support and grow the city’s local food movement
- strengthen the local economy by elevating those businesses that care about their workers and are passionate about Brum and its people, creating local networks and supply chains and increasing tourism
Our born connection with the natural world is called biophilia which literally means “love of life” and that is what the Brum Biosphere is all about, creating a new way of life in our city.
